Component Update Installation Instructions for CSAV for Windows(r) 2000/XP Server and Windows(r) 2000/XP Workstation RELEASE NOTES Notes on Command AntiVirus for Windows 2000/XP (CSAV) Version 4.64.1 component update. 27 March 2002 PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS * Scan engine enhancements have been added to this release: - Improved detection of "intended viruses" and corrupted virus samples that are frequently found in virus collections but pose no credible threat. Detection of these non-working files is enabled by selecting ALL FILES under PROPERTIES\FILE TYPES TO SCAN in the graphical user interface (GUI). If you are using the command-line scanner, use the /COLLECT switch. - Scanning of MIME-encoded files is now supported. BASE64 and QUOTED-PRINTABLE parts will be decoded and then scanned. - Disinfection of W32/Klez.E@mm - The scanning speed has been improved. * New virus signatures have been added in this release. * The following extensions have been added to the INCLUDED EXTENSIONS list of default extensions to be scanned, in the PREFERENCES/FILES TO INCLUDE-EXCLUDE/EXTENSIONS TO INCLUDE dialog box. SPECIAL NOTES * INSTALLATION This component update contains the following files: 2K23EPE1.EXE -- a self-extracting executable that contains the following files: - 020327.MSP -- a patch file that updates the following files: - ENGLISH.TX1 - the updated messages. - CSSCAN32.DLL - the updated core scan engine file. - CSS3RDE.DLL - the updated scan engine API. - CSS-DVP.SYS - the updated DVP file. - CSAVNTC.EXE - the updated command-line scanner. - F-PROT.EXE - the updated DOS command-line scanner. - INSTALL.TXT -- contains the installation instructions. This component update can be installed in two ways: First, it can be installed so that it is deployed automatically to multiple computers on a network. Second, it can be manually installed on individual computers. NOTE: After installing the component update, we recommend that you update your Command AntiVirus virus definition files. The following sections provide instructions for each type of installation. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS USING GROUP POLICY Through Group Policy, you can distribute the patch onto the computers that were specified in the original deployment configuration. We recommend that you perform an administrative installation of the deffiles patch to your software distribution points (SDPs). This allows you to apply and distribute the patch easily through Group Policy. To perform an administrative installation of the deffiles patch, at the command line, type the following and press Enter. msiexec /a csav.msi /p csav.msp NOTE: Be sure to select the same network path that you used for the original SDP. The name of the CSAV MSP file changes with each update. To distribute the component update patch follow these steps: 1. In the Console Root Tree of the Microsoft Management Console, click the plus sign next to the Group Policy object that you selected for Command AntiVirus. This action expands this item. Then, expand Computer Configuration and Software Settings. 2. Click Software Installation. The right-hand pane now lists Command AntiVirus. 3. Right-click Command AntiVirus. The system displays a drop-down menu. 4. Select All Tasks and click Redeploy application. The system displays a dialog box asking you if you want to continue. 5. Click Yes. Your redeployment is complete. Command AntiVirus with the updated components will be reinstalled onto the computers that were specified in the original deployment configuration the next time the computers are started. MANUAL INSTALLATION ON INDIVIDUAL COMPUTERS To install the component update on an individual computer, follow these instructions: 1. Download the component update file to a temporary directory. 2. Go to the temporary directory containing the component update file. 3. Double-click the file to extract the files that are contained within it. 4. Close the Command AntiVirus Graphical User Interface (GUI). 5. Go to the temporary directory containing the extracted file. 6. Double click the .MSP file. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen.
